The benefits of making mistakes.

Next Saturday 11 July is the last week of term at Tutorsquared.

As the end of term approaches we are assessing all pupils.

Today we had a discussion with the Year 5 pupils about the important role mistakes can play in acquiring knowledge and building resilience. As our Year 5 pupils are planning their summer holidays past papers will be on the agenda. We have been emphasising the importance of reviewing errors before attempting another past paper. When pupils correct their own work their brain learns fastest when they encounter a mistake.

Developing a growth mindset requires pupils to accept mistakes as an important part of the learning process.

Here is an outline of what we did today.

Year 4

English - Similes and metaphors: How they are used in creative writing and how to avoid clichés.

Maths - Handling Data: tally charts, bar charts, line graphs, pie charts and Venn Diagrams.

Year 5

Assessments have been conducted in English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning, and Non-Verbal Reasoning. We will be sharing data with parents in our meetings on Zoom.
